If you have watched any prestige crime show (literally ANY), you must be familiar with the "Big Bad" character trope. No, it's not a wolf. It's an antagonist who has not been heard of before, suddenly appears (always in the first episode of the season) and gets their comeuppance (always in the last episode of the season).

Examples are plenty. Richie Aprile on Season 2 of "The Sopranos", Mags Bennett on Season 2 of "Justified", take your pick of any season of "Dexter", Ethan Zobelle on Season 2 of "Sons of Anarchy"... (Wait, there is a trend here!)

Let's briefly talk about Zobelle, played by character actor (and son of Alan) Adam Arkin. Not just a white supremacist, but a white separatist... played by a Jew! Well, a paycheck is a paycheck! (In recent years, Adam has done more directing than acting.)

What happens to all of these Big Bads after their season is over?

Nothing. They don't return. One guess why.
