Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, Andrew Carnegie came to the United States as a penniless immigrant. He started as a bobbin boy, eventually working his way up through the railroad industry before investing heavily in oil, and then, most famously, steel. His Carnegie Steel Company dominated the American steel industry, making him fabulously wealthy by employing aggressive business practices, often at the expense of his workers.

While his business acumen was undeniable, Carnegie is perhaps best remembered for his "Gospel of Wealth," a philosophy that urged the wealthy to use their fortunes to improve society. He sold Carnegie Steel to J.P. Morgan for over $480 million (in 1901 money!) and then spent the rest of his life giving away over 90% of his fortune, establishing libraries, universities, and peace organizations.

Despite his legendary philanthropy, there's no record of Andrew Carnegie ever having a single bagel, let alone participating in a Seder. His Scottish Presbyterian roots were as firm as the steel he forged, ensuring a complete and utter lack of anything remotely Semitic in his background. His charitable endeavors, while extensive, were distinctly secular and focused on public uplift rather than any specific religious community.
