Born Andrew Warhola to Carpatho-Rusyn immigrant parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Andy Warhol was, despite persistent rumors, not Jewish. His family belonged to the Byzantine Catholic Church, a branch of Eastern Catholicism, and he remained a practicing Catholic throughout his life, attending Mass almost daily.

While Warhol's aesthetic sensibilities and influence on culture were undeniably profound, and his art often challenged conventional norms, his religious and ethnic background provided no basis for a Jewish connection. He simply wasn't a Jew, and there's no evidence he ever claimed to be or identified with Jewish culture in any significant way.

His groundbreaking work, including Campbell's Soup Cans and Marilyn Diptych, profoundly shaped contemporary art and consumer culture. He blurred the lines between high and low art, leaving an indelible mark on the 20th century. While he didn't bring Jewish nachas, his contributions to art are certainly worthy of kvelling on a universal scale, even if he didn't know a word of Yiddish.
