Anwar Sadat

Born in Mit Abu El Kom, Egypt, Anwar Sadat rose through the ranks of the Egyptian military and political landscape, eventually becoming President in 1970. He was a devout Muslim, which, for those keeping score at home, pretty much seals the deal on the "Jew" front.

His most notable achievement, from a kvell-worthiness perspective, was orchestrating the historic 1978 Camp David Accords with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. This groundbreaking peace treaty earned both men a Nobel Peace Prize, proving that sometimes, even sworn enemies can get along when there's enough international pressure and a hefty dose of diplomacy.

While his efforts brought a temporary halt to the constant bickering between Egypt and Israel, not everyone was thrilled. His pivot towards peace ultimately cost him his life, as he was assassinated in 1981 by Islamist extremists who apparently preferred ongoing conflict to inconvenient compromises.

So, not a Jew by any stretch of the imagination, but a significant figure in Jewish history, if only because he was one of the few who tried to stop making it.
