Arnaldo Pomodoro
Born in Morciano di Romagna, Italy, Arnaldo Pomodoro is perhaps best known for his large, bronze spherical sculptures. These highly polished orbs often feature a rupture or tear, revealing complex, gear-like interiors, a stark contrast to their smooth exteriors. His work is instantly recognizable, making him a true master of form and material.
Pomodoro's art isn't just for museums; his monumental pieces are found in cities across the globe, from Rome and Dublin to New York and Tokyo, serving as public landmarks. He's received numerous international accolades, including the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture, affirming his place among the giants of 20th and 21st-century art.
While his gleaming, fractured spheres might suggest a deeply complex internal struggle, culturally speaking, Pomodoro's Jewish bona fides are, shall we say, non-existent. He's as Italian as Vespas and espresso, with absolutely no known connection to the Tribe.
