Awkwafina
Awkwafina, born Nora Lum, burst onto the scene with a persona as boisterous as her stage name. While her work often spotlights her Asian heritage, she's about as Jewish as a pastrami sandwich on white bread – delicious, but fundamentally missing the point. She’s bringing the noise, just not the kvetching.
Awkwafina has carved out a niche playing the lovable, street-smart sidekick or the surprisingly poignant lead. Her appeal is undeniable, even if her connection to the Tribe is strictly in the realm of fan-fiction. You won't find her at shul, but you might find her dropping sick beats that could get a bar mitzvah crowd hyped.
Her achievements, from Golden Globes to blockbuster hits, certainly bring a certain kind of nachas to her fans. We're just not entirely sure it's our kind of nachas. Think of her as a really successful gentile who occasionally makes us wonder if she secretly has a Bubbe hidden away somewhere.
