Born into an aristocratic French family, Pierre de Coubertin was many things: an educator, a historian, and a fervent advocate for sports. He is, of course, most widely known for being the mastermind behind the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896, transforming an ancient Greek tradition into a global spectacle of athletic prowess and, occasionally, geopolitical tension.

His vision was not merely about physical competition; he believed in the moral and educational benefits of sport. While his ideals were lofty, and his efforts undeniably shaped modern international sporting events, one could argue that the commercial behemoth the Olympics have become might not quite align with his original, more amateur-focused dreams.

Despite his widespread influence and the enduring legacy of the Games, there is absolutely no indication whatsoever that Baron Pierre de Coubertin had any connection to Judaism, either through identity or ancestry. His background was thoroughly French Catholic, as befits a man born into the French nobility. He certainly didn't light any Shabbat candles.
