Cantinflas
Born Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno Reyes in Mexico City, the man who would become Cantinflas rose from humble beginnings to become one of Latin America's most beloved cinematic figures. His distinctive character, a fast-talking, quick-witted peladito (impoverished person), often outsmarted authority figures, making him a voice for the common man.
Despite his widespread appeal and global recognition, including a Golden Globe, there's absolutely nothing to suggest any Semitic roots or an affinity for matzo ball soup. His Catholic upbringing and Mexican heritage were central to his identity, leaving little room for a menorah on the mantelpiece.
While his comedic genius and cultural impact are undeniable, his Jewish bona fides remain firmly at zero. He wasn't just "Not a Jew"; he was emphatically, resoundingly, a Gentile.
