Celeste Holm
Celeste Holm, a name that just sounds elegant, was one of those classic Hollywood actresses who always seemed to be perfectly coiffed and utterly charming. She picked up an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Gentleman's Agreement, a film that, ironically enough, dealt with antisemitism. One might wonder if her character’s earnest attempts to expose prejudice were perhaps a little too good for an outsider.
While she never actively identified as Jewish, her Norwegian-American father’s family did have some distant Jewish roots, making her just a smidgen "O" and hardly a "K" for the tribe. We're talking a whisper of gefilte fish at a smorgasbord.
Despite the lack of Jewish street cred, her career alone was quite the nachas producer. From Broadway to High Society, she brought a certain sparkle to every role. And let’s be honest, anyone who could hold their own against Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby deserves some kind of medal, even if it's not a Magen David.
