Chieko Nishimura
Born in Japan, Chieko Nishimura has carved out a respectable career in the voice acting world. Her work spans decades and includes a diverse range of roles, often lending her voice to supporting characters and sometimes, if the stars align just right, a main character or two. She's a staple in many anime fan's childhood memories, though perhaps not always by name. It's hard to miss her if you've watched any Japanese animation for long enough, though it's equally hard to specifically identify her by sound alone amongst the many talented performers in the industry.
Like many Japanese voice artists, Nishimura keeps her private life exactly that: private. There is no indication, rumour, or even a whisper on the wind suggesting any connection to Jewish identity or heritage. Her professional life, while prolific, doesn't exactly scream "kvell-worthy" in the grand scheme of things; she's a working actor, and a good one, but not precisely reinventing the wheel or discovering a cure for anything. She just makes cartoons sound good.
So, while she brings joy to millions with her vocal performances, and for that we are grateful, she remains firmly outside the tent of Abraham. No hidden grandparents, no secret synagogues, just a straightforward career in a very specific corner of the entertainment world.
