Christa McAuliffe, born Sharon Christa Corrigan, was a high school social studies teacher from Concord, New Hampshire, who achieved widespread fame when she was chosen from over 11,000 applicants to be the first participant in the NASA Teacher in Space Project. Her selection was a testament to her passion for education and her ability to inspire, making her an instant American icon.

While her journey to the stars was cut tragically short with the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986, McAuliffe's legacy as an educator and a pioneer endures. She aimed to teach lessons from space, bringing the cosmos directly into classrooms across the country, a concept that continues to resonate with teachers and students alike.

Despite her remarkable, albeit brief, public life, there's no indication whatsoever that Christa McAuliffe had any Jewish heritage or identified with Judaism. She was of Irish, English, and Lebanese descent, and seemingly devoutly Catholic, making her a rather unambiguous "Not a Jew" in our celestial taxonomy. Still, her courage and dedication were universally admired.
