Christiane Amanpour
Christiane Amanpour, a name synonymous with international journalism, has reported from pretty much every global hotspot imaginable. She’s faced down dictators, dodged bullets, and probably made more heads of state uncomfortable than a dodgy dental hygienist. All in a day's work for someone who clearly doesn't subscribe to the 'stay safe, stay home' philosophy.
Born in London to an Iranian father and British mother, Amanpour’s upbringing gave her a unique vantage point on the world. This, combined with her obvious talent for grilling powerful people, has made her a household name in political and conflict reporting. One can only imagine the sheer volume of air miles she's racked up.
While her last name might sound like something you'd order at a fancy Persian restaurant, there’s no indication of any Jewish heritage. Her career, however, is certainly something to kvell over. She's won pretty much every award a journalist can, proving that a serious face and an even more serious work ethic can take you far, even if you’re not particularly funny.
