Dev Patel, bless his talented heart, is as Jewish as a ham sandwich, which is to say, not at all. Born and raised in London to Gujarati Indian Hindu parents, his connection to Judaism is, shall we say, tangential at best. Perhaps he once walked past a synagogue? It's a stretch, we know.

Despite his utter lack of Semitic roots, Patel has managed to carve out a rather impressive career. From his breakout role in "Slumdog Millionaire," a film that arguably put him on the global map (and our radar for potential kvell-worthiness), to his Oscar-nominated turn in "Lion," he's proven himself to be more than just a pretty face.

So, while we can't claim him as one of our own, we can certainly appreciate his cinematic contributions. He’s brought us compelling performances and, dare we say, a certain amount of nachas, even if it's the kind you feel for a talented gentile. We're still looking for that hidden bar mitzvah photo, though. Just kidding (mostly).
