Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran, a man whose musical output is as prolific as his ginger hair is distinctive, hails from Halifax, West Yorkshire. His global appeal is undeniable, turning stadiums into singalong sessions and ensuring a steady stream of earworms for millions. Yet, despite the pervasive nature of his melodies, there's nary a dreidel or matzo ball to be found in his family tree. No surprise there; he’s more known for his folk-pop sensibilities than for any ancient Hebraic roots.
While his songs might make you feel all the feels, none of those feels appear to be overtly Jewish. He was raised Catholic and hasn't publicly veered from that path, nor has he expressed any connection to Jewish culture or community. So, for those hoping to add "Jew" to his lengthy list of accolades, you're out of luck.
Still, it's hard to deny the man's talent. He writes his own songs, plays multiple instruments, and sells out tours worldwide. That's what we call "nachas-inducing" even if it's not our nachas. He's amassed a staggering fortune and numerous awards, proving that you don't need a yarmulke to churn out chart-topping hits.
