Eddie Murphy burst onto the scene in the early 80s, a comedic force of nature who single-handedly made "Saturday Night Live" relevant again. His stand-up specials were iconic, and his early films, like "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Coming to America," cemented his status as a superstar. He was the undisputed king, effortlessly charming and hilarious, a master of impressions and character work.

Then came the 90s, and with it, a shift. The edgy comedian began to embrace family-friendly fare, trading in his raunchy routines for talking animals and fat suits. While financially successful, this era left some fans yearning for the irreverence of his earlier work.

Murphy has seen a resurgence in recent years, proving he can still deliver the goods with acclaimed performances in films like "Dolemite Is My Name." He's a legend, no doubt, but one who’s taken a rather circuitous route to get there. Nevertheless, the man knows how to entertain, and that’s a kvell all its own.
