For those who don't know, the European soccer championship is going on right now. It's like a mini World Cup. For three weeks, teams will battle out to figure out who is the best country on the continent: Sweden or Spain. Germany or Poland. Poor Poland.

But it's not Poland we're interested in today, it's the Netherlands. And we cheat a bit here, since today's subject is not included in the current Dutch squad. Edgar Davids is currently at the tail end of his career that saw him spend a decade at some of Europe's most glamorous clubs. During that time, he was considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

And yes, the Suriname-born dark-skinned goggle-wearing dread-locked Dutchman has Jewish roots. According to Davids himself, one of his grandparents is Jewish.
