Erica Jong
We recently received an email that complained that we used the "f word" in a profile. (Not the first time we had done it, but so it goes.) So, to satisfy our most righteous of readers, we will give you a choice of what to replace the "f word" with!
(select) affair coitus consummation copulation dalliance embrace encounter indiscretion intimacy liaison pleasure release romp tumble tryst union
Eric Jong defined "zipless fuck". While we have not heard the term used much today, it entered the lexicon after the publication of Jong's controversial debut novel, "Fear of Flying", in 1973. "Zipless fuck" is defined as "a sexual encounter between two strangers for its own sake, without emotional involvement or commitment". The 1970s in a nutshell, isn't it?
Don't let that Asian surname fool you! (It came from Erica's second marriage and covered up the original, Mann). The woman who came up with "zipless fuck" is, in fact, Jewish. And while "Fear of Flying" (considered a seminal work of second-wave feminism) was not strictly autobiographical, it did contain lots of true-to-life elements, so we can be pretty sure that Erica herself engaged in a lot of these zipless fucks... Again, it was the 70s.
You know what? It just looks right in the original. Apologies to righteous readers.
