Born in Quito to a mestizo father and an indigenous mother, Eugenio Espejo rose through the ranks of colonial society to become a physician, lawyer, and writer. His efforts to critique Spanish rule and advocate for public health were groundbreaking, though one must admit, not particularly Jewish in nature. One could even say he was decidedly not Jewish, which is often the case with prominent figures of the Latin American Enlightenment.

Espejo's dedication to intellectual freedom and his role as a precursor to Ecuadorian independence are certainly admirable achievements. His advocacy for smallpox vaccination and his journalistic endeavors mark him as a true pioneer. Kvell-worthy? Perhaps for Ecuadorians, but for the Tribe, he barely registered on the radar.

While his contributions were significant, and his intellect undeniable, any attempt to assign a "Jew Score" beyond a flat zero for identity and origin would be purely speculative and, frankly, absurd. He was an Enlightenment man, not a Mensch.
