Gottlieb Daimler

Gottlieb Daimler, born in Schorndorf, Germany, dedicated his prodigious engineering talents to making the world a noisier, faster place. While others were content with horse-drawn carriages, Daimler envisioned a future where personal locomotion involved rather a lot more bang for the buck. He started by tinkering with gas engines and, in partnership with Wilhelm Maybach, eventually created the first high-speed internal combustion engine, turning what was once a mere mechanical curiosity into the very heart of modern transportation.

His contributions were, shall we say, rather impactful.
