Grace Beverly Jones was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to parents who were deeply religious Pentecostals. Her father, Robert W. Jones, was an Apostolic minister and politician, and her mother, Marjorie, was a prominent church leader. Growing up in such a devout Christian household in Jamaica, Grace Jones's roots are firmly planted in the Caribbean, far from the kibbutz. There is no evidence whatsoever of any Jewish ancestry or self-identification with Judaism in her background. Even if we tried to squint and see it, the evidence just isn't there. It's almost like trying to find a quiet moment in a Grace Jones concert.

While her musical career blossomed with hits like "Pull Up to the Bumper" and her acting roles in films like "Conan the Destroyer" and "A View to a Kill" brought her global fame, none of these achievements, however kvell-worthy on their own merits, contribute to the Jewish people's collective pride. Unless, of course, you count the sheer chutzpah of her fashion sense, which is certainly off the charts.

Grace Jones is a singular force of nature, a true iconoclast who has defied categorization throughout her career. Her impact on music, fashion, and performance art is undeniable. But when it comes to the tribe, she's strictly an outsider, having never converted, affiliated, or even accidentally stumbled into a synagogue on a Saturday morning. She's as Jew-ish as a ham sandwich on white bread.
