Born Julius Henry Marx, one of the five Marx Brothers, Groucho was undeniably born into a Jewish family. His parents, Sam and Minnie Marx, were Jewish immigrants from Germany, ensuring a full 5 out of 5 on the "O" (Origin) scale, because, well, you can't get much more original than that.

While his Jewish heritage was clear, Groucho’s personal practice of Judaism was, shall we say, less fervent. He was known for his secular outlook and sharp critiques of organized religion, opting instead for a faith in a good gag and a well-timed pun. His commitment to religious observance might have been minimal, but his commitment to comedy was absolute.

Kvell-worthiness? Off the charts. As the sardonic, fast-talking leader of the Marx Brothers, he delivered some of the most iconic comedic performances in film history, influencing generations of comedians. From "Duck Soup" to "A Night at the Opera," Groucho’s subversive humor and inimitable style brought endless nachas to anyone with a pulse and a sense of the absurd. He also hosted "You Bet Your Life," proving he could make even a game show intellectually stimulating, which is a kvell feat in itself.
