Henry Golding
Henry Golding burst onto the scene with a name that, for many of us, conjured up delightful images of menorahs, matzo ball soup, and perhaps a distant relative who owns a successful chain of delis. Alas, a quick delve into his background reveals a rather less gefilte-fish-filled heritage. Born to a Malaysian Iban mother and a British father, his ancestry is firmly rooted in Southeast Asia and the UK, not the shtetl.
Golding’s rise to leading man status has been impressive, and he’s certainly brought a charismatic presence to the big screen. However, his roles, while entertaining, haven't exactly been brimming with kvell-worthy Jewish representation. We're still waiting for that biopic of a young, dashing Herzl, or perhaps a rom-com where he plays a charming, slightly neurotic rabbi.
So, while we appreciate his cinematic contributions and undeniable good looks, we must, with a heavy heart, confirm that Henry Golding is, in fact, not a Jew. We'll just have to keep kvelling over him for his talent alone, which, let's be honest, is still something.
