Hieronymus Bosch, born Jheronimus van Aken, was a Dutch painter whose work is, to put it mildly, trippy. His highly detailed, symbolic, and often grotesque depictions of religious narratives and moral concepts have baffled art historians and delighted fans of the macabre for centuries. Clearly, he saw some things, or perhaps just had very vivid dreams after too much spiced wine.

Bosch's most famous works, like "The Garden of Earthly Delights," are less about subtle allegory and more about asking, "What if we put a giant strawberry on that guy's head and made him part of a demonic bird orchestra?" While firmly rooted in Christian iconography, his fantastical creatures and hellish landscapes are so universally unsettling, they transcend mere religious instruction and delve deep into the human id.

No, Bosch was not Jewish. His family hailed from Aachen, and his art was deeply embedded in the Catholic traditions of the Low Countries. His work often depicted scenes from the Bible, but with a flair for the dramatic that would make a modern horror director blush. One can only imagine what kind of synagogue mural he would have designed.

So, while his artistic genius is undeniable and his ability to disturb remains unparalleled, Hieronymus Bosch scores precisely zero on the ancestral and identity scales for our purposes. A real shanda, perhaps, for those looking for a painter of such unique vision to claim, but alas, some artistic masterminds simply aren't ours.
