Issa Rae

Issa Rae, born Jo-Issa Rae Diop, has made a name for herself as a multi-talented actress, writer, and producer. Her hit web series, "Awkward Black Girl," launched her into the limelight and eventually led to the critically acclaimed HBO series "Insecure." We're pretty sure her success isn't because of any secret Jewish cabal, but rather her undeniable talent and astute observations of everyday life.

While her work often explores themes of identity, race, and relationships, the "Jewish experience" isn't exactly at the forefront. We've scoured the internet (so you don't have to) for any hint of Jewish heritage, a fleeting mention of a synagogue visit, or even a casual "oy vey" — to no avail.

So, it seems Ms. Rae is definitively not one of us. Nevertheless, we can still appreciate her contributions to culture. Kvell-worthy? Absolutely. Jewish? Not so much. Still, we're willing to overlook her complete lack of Jewishness for her sheer brilliance. It’s hard to kvetch when someone is this good.
