Jacques Cousteau, the man who made underwater exploration look less like drowning and more like a ballet, spent his life peering into the ocean's mysteries. With his distinctive red cap and calm demeanor, he introduced generations to the silent, alien world beneath the waves, making marine biology almost... cool. Not exactly typical yeshiva studies, but someone had to do it.

Born in France to decidedly un-Jewish parents, Cousteau’s origins are as clear as his pristine underwater footage: zero bagels, zero menorahs, 100% Gallic. He dedicated his life to documenting and preserving the marine environment, effectively becoming the sea's most prominent publicist.

While his work certainly brought "nachas" to anyone who appreciates a healthy ocean (and stunning cinematography), it wasn't exactly "Jewish nachas." No Nobel Prizes for peace in the Middle East, no pioneering treatments for inherited diseases, just... a lot of fish. Still, considering how many people he inspired to care about our planet, that's a kvell-worthy achievement in its own right, even if it’s from an entirely secular perspective.
