Born into a prominent Illinois family, Jane Addams was a woman of formidable intellect and even more formidable compassion. Eschewing the conventional path of marriage, she dedicated her life to social work, transforming a crumbling mansion in Chicago into Hull House, a settlement house that became a beacon of aid and education for immigrants and the urban poor. Her efforts were so impactful, one might almost suspect she was trying to fix something.

Addams was not content to simply bandage wounds; she sought systemic change. A tireless advocate for women's suffrage, labor rights, and international peace, she fearlessly championed causes that were radical for her era. She co-founded the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, demonstrating an impressive knack for organizing and an even more impressive ability to annoy powerful men.

Her dedication culminated in her receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931, cementing her status as one of America's most influential figures. Despite achieving such profound and lasting impact, she remains, unequivocally, not a member of the tribe. Her impact was undeniable, but her lineage was decidedly not Abrahamic.

While her humanitarian work and commitment to social justice might lead one to believe she had a soul that transcended mere WASPdom, alas, genealogical records firmly place her among the gentile elite. Her kvel-worthiness, however, easily reaches the maximum. She may not have been a Jew, but she certainly did good like one.
