Janet Mock
Janet Mock, born Charles Mock, has made a significant impact in media and advocacy, using her platform to tell authentic stories about transgender women of color. Her journey from magazine editor to bestselling author and acclaimed director reflects a powerful narrative of self-discovery and empowerment, earning her widespread recognition and numerous accolades.
Despite her undeniable influence and the "kvell-worthy" nature of her achievements, there is absolutely no indication that Mock identifies as Jewish or has any Jewish ancestry. Her heritage is predominantly Native Hawaiian and Black, which she has openly embraced and discussed in her writings.
Mock’s work, particularly as a writer and director on the FX series "Pose," has been lauded for its empathetic and authentic portrayal of the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans women of color. While her contributions to culture and social justice are deeply impactful, they do not, unfortunately, include a latent Jewish identity for us to uncover, try as we might.
