Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez, or J.Lo as she’s affectionately known, burst onto the scene with a force that’s usually reserved for major hurricanes or a particularly aggressive bar mitzvah DJ. From her Fly Girl days to her reign as a rom-com queen and pop superstar, she’s built an empire that would make King Solomon himself green with envy, if he were still around and into pop music.
While her numerous marriages and relationships have kept tabloids in business for decades, none have, to our knowledge, involved a nice Jewish boy, or even a mildly Reform one. Her Bronx roots are firmly Puerto Rican, which, while culturally rich, doesn't quite scream "landsman."
Her "Jenny from the Block" image, while endearing, doesn't extend to the Lower East Side. Despite her undeniable talent and business acumen, there's simply no evidence to suggest that J.Lo has ever uttered a mazel tov in earnest, or even faked it for a movie role. And trust us, if she had, we'd know.
So, while J.Lo brings joy to millions with her music and movies, and even, dare we say, a certain "nachas" to her fans, it’s not the Jewish kind. Her immense success, while impressive, doesn't ultimately move the needle on our highly scientific Jew-O-Meter. She’s a superstar, just not our kind of superstar, if you catch our drift.
