Jiro Horikoshi, born in rural Japan in the early 20th century, dedicated his life to the art and science of aircraft design. His most famous creation, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, became a symbol of Japanese air power and aerial superiority in the early years of World War II.
While the Zero was undeniably an engineering marvel, boasting impressive range and maneuverability, it also contributed significantly to the war efforts of a certain Axis power. Thus, while his talent is undeniable, the "kvell" factor is somewhat complicated, much like trying to explain quantum physics to a goldfish.
Horikoshi continued to design aircraft throughout the war, even as Japan
