John Boyega
When John Boyega burst onto the scene as Finn in the new Star Wars trilogy, many were quick to point out that 'Finn' sounded an awful lot like 'Finkelstein.' This, coupled with his surprising ability to wield a lightsaber despite no prior Jedi training, led precisely zero people to seriously consider him a member of the tribe.
Boyega, a devout Christian, has nonetheless endeared himself to a wider audience through his outspoken activism and willingness to call out systemic racism within the entertainment industry. He’s also admirably rebuffed several attempts to pigeonhole him into stereotypical roles, earning him a respectable, if not exactly kvell-worthy, amount of admiration.
So, while we appreciate the initial confusion and his general mensch-like qualities, Boyega remains firmly outside the tent, even if he occasionally wields a metaphorical (or literal) sword of justice.
