If you wanted to find out if Garfield is Jewish, you would obviously go to this website and search for his name. Or you could click on the Actors link and go to "G". Then you would click on his profile, and if you're one of those people who goes straight to the verdict, you would see: "Verdict: Jew".

But then you will read the profile, but find out it's not about Garfield at all! Well, it's about Garfield... but not about the Garfield you want to know about! You came here to learn about the actor Garfield, but the profile is about Garfield the cat? Huh?

What's going on here, Jew or Not Jew? You come to the website wanting to learn about Garfield's Jewish heritage, perhaps partake in the debate if he is the best Spider-Man, gossip about his relationship with Emma Stone, or read about how he — a Jew — played a devout Jesuit priest in Martin Scorsese's "Silence"! Instead, you got a riff on that stupid cartoon cat who eats lasagna. What's going on here?

Well, the name Garfield was at some point changed from Garfinkel, he is not the best Spider-Man, his relationship with Stone ended a decade ago, and he said that when he was playing the priest, he "was falling in love with Jesus Christ". That's kinda lame!

Wait. You wanted to know not about Andrew Garfield, but John Garfield, the leading man from the 30s and 40s who was blacklisted during the Red Scare. Yes, he was Jewish.

One major difference from Andrew: John's original name wasn't Garfinkel. It was Garfinkle.
