John Mulaney, a Catholic of Irish descent, attended St. Ignatius College Prep and later Georgetown University, eschewing any known Jewish entanglements beyond, perhaps, a well-placed joke or two about bagels. While he may not be frequenting synagogue, he's certainly familiar with the concept of suffering for his art, albeit in a decidedly non-Hebraic fashion.

Mulaney’s career took off as a writer for Saturday Night Live, where he co-created the character Stefon with Bill Hader. He has since released multiple stand-up specials, including “New in Town,” “The Comeback Kid,” and “Kid Gorgeous at Radio City,” all of which demonstrate a meticulous crafting of jokes and a delivery that is both earnest and deeply sarcastic. His specials are critically acclaimed and have garnered him multiple awards.

While Mulaney's personal life has, at times, become fodder for his comedy (and the tabloids), his professional output remains consistently sharp. He brings a unique perspective to the stage, blending self-deprecating humor with astute observations about everyday life, all while maintaining an almost aggressively wholesome demeanor that makes his darker turns all the more impactful.

Though not Jewish, Mulaney’s dedication to his craft and his ability to elicit both laughter and thought from his audience would no doubt earn him a nod of approval from even the most discerning kvetcher. He has, after all, brought joy to millions, which, in the grand scheme of things, is almost as good as being a doctor.
