Joni Mitchell, born Roberta Joan Anderson, soared to fame in the late 1960s, charming audiences with her distinctive voice, poetic lyrics, and complex guitar tunings. From "Big Yellow Taxi" to "Both Sides, Now" and the entire Blue album, her discography reads like a masterclass in introspective artistry. Frankly, it's a bit much for anyone, even us, to unpack everything she's accomplished, musically speaking.

Despite her profound influence and a career spanning decades, Ms. Mitchell's background is decidedly non-Semitic. Hailing from Fort Macleod, Alberta, her family roots are firmly planted in the Anglo-Scottish and Norwegian soil, without a whisper of a klezmer band or a gefilte fish recipe in sight.

While she never converted, married a nice Jewish boy, or even dabbled in Kabbalah, Joni's contributions to the global cultural tapestry are undeniable. Her refusal to be easily categorized, much like her music, makes her a unique and deeply revered artist. She may not share our heritage, but she certainly shares our high standards for artistic excellence. We're just glad she didn't try to write a song called "Hava Nagila (Acoustic Version)."

So, while we'd love to claim her for the team, Joni Mitchell is definitively not a member of the tribe. However, her enduring legacy means she brings a different kind of nachas to millions, even if it's not the kind you brag about at the Passover Seder.
