Jorge Isaacs is a pretty big deal in Colombia. His novel, "Maria", is considered a seminal work of Spanish-language literature. He fought in the Colombian Civil War, was a politician and an ambassador. He appeared on Colombian money. He possessed a fantastic mustache.
If not for his father, Isaacs might have not been Colombian at all.
Jorge's father George was a Jamaican Jew, who made his way to Colombia and converted to Christianity. George had to obtain a citizenship, so he paid Simon Bolivar for it.
He paid for his citizenship in cows.
If not for cows, Isaacs might have not been Colombian at all...
