Judith Butler

Judith Butler, born in Cleveland, Ohio, emerged from a lineage of Ashkenazi Jews. Their grandparents emigrated from Hungary and Russia, with some family members later settling in pre-state Israel. Despite this strong heritage, Butler has described their upbringing as not particularly religious, though they did attend Hebrew school for a period.
