J.R. Jayewardene, affectionately known as "Old Fox," wasn't just any politician; he was the first executive President of Sri Lanka. His tenure saw a shift towards a more open economy, which, depending on who you ask, either saved or doomed the island nation. He was a man of his times, and those times were, shall we say, complicated. He even flirted with Buddhism in a significant way, much like some people flirt with gluten-free diets – very publicly and with much dedication.

Born into a prominent Sinhalese family, Jayewardene's lineage stretched back through generations of Ceylonese (and later, Sri Lankan) elite. His family was Buddhist, a heritage he embraced fully. So, while his political maneuvers might have been cunning enough for a certain biblical character, his actual origins and identity were firmly rooted in the lush soils of South Asia, not the arid plains of Judea.

He opened Sri Lanka to the free market and opened himself to the idea of a presidential system, consolidating power with the deftness of a magician pulling a rabbit from a hat – a rabbit that, unfortunately, sometimes had sharp teeth. While his political legacy is debated, his total lack of Jewish identity or origin is, for our purposes, refreshingly unambiguous.
