We've all heard of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. And we've all heard of people climbing it. But in 1975, when Junko Tabei did it, she wasn't just a person. She was the first woman to do it. Take that, patriarchy!

Not content with merely conquering Everest, Tabei went on to become the first woman to ascend all Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. Talk about setting the bar high... literally. She continued to climb well into her 70s, proving that age is just another mountain to climb.

While Junko Tabei certainly reached dizzying heights of achievement, her Jewish bona fides remained firmly at sea level. Her Japanese heritage meant she was, unequivocally, not a member of the tribe, despite her undeniably impressive kvell-worthiness.
