Kamala Harris
Born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, Kamala Devi Harris boasts a heritage rich in diverse cultures and political activism. Her mother, a cancer researcher, and her father, an economics professor, instilled in her a strong sense of social justice and public service. No gefilte fish at those family dinners, we reckon.
Harris’s career path is a highlight reel of "firsts": first female District Attorney of San Francisco, first female Attorney General of California, first South Asian American Senator, and, of course, the first female Vice President. She's either incredibly ambitious or just really bad at coming in second.
While her political achievements are undeniable, and she’s certainly got the chutzpah for the job, there's no indication of any Jewish background. We’ve checked under every rock, mezuzah, and even behind the Oval Office’s hidden passageways. Nothing.
Her policy stances and public statements have occasionally drawn both praise and criticism, as is par for the course in American politics. Kvell-worthiness points are awarded for her trailblazing career, although some might argue it's more of a kvetch-worthiness given the current political climate. Either way, she’s certainly made an impact.
