Dame Kathleen Lonsdale, born Kathleen Yardley, was an Irish crystallographer who made significant advancements in the field of X-ray diffraction. Her meticulous work confirmed the structure of benzene, a revelation that likely pleased organic chemists everywhere, even those who might have preferred a more exotic shape for the molecule.

Her contributions weren't limited to hydrocarbons; she also established the crystallographic database that bears her name, the 'International Tables for X-ray Crystallography,' which sounds like a thrilling read. In her spare time, she was also a dedicated pacifist, serving a month in Holloway Prison during WWII for refusing to register for civil defense duties. Apparently, she found the hexagonal structure of prison cells less engaging than that of benzene.

While her scientific legacy is solid as a diamond, her connection to the tribe is, shall we say, non-existent. Born to an Irish Protestant family, Lonsdale exemplified the best of scientific rigor and human integrity, but not, alas, any familial links to Moses or gefilte fish.

Despite her remarkable achievements and groundbreaking work that reshaped our understanding of molecular structures, Kathleen Lonsdale remains definitively outside the Jewish fold.
