Lee Kuan Yew

Lee Kuan Yew, or "LKY" to his devoted followers and slightly less devoted detractors, was Singapore's first and longest-serving Prime Minister. He took a tiny, resource-poor island and, through a combination of shrewd economic planning and decidedly non-democratic practices, turned it into a gleaming metropolis with a GDP per capita that would make most Western nations blush.

He famously cracked down on dissent, regulated everything from chewing gum to free speech, and ensured his People's Action Party remained firmly in control. While some might call this authoritarian, others point to the clean streets, low crime, and staggering prosperity as proof of his genius. He delivered results, which, let's be honest, is more than most politicians can say.

So, was LKY Jewish? Not even a little. His ancestry was entirely Hakka Chinese, and his public persona was far more Confucian than Abrahamic. He probably never even considered pastrami on rye.

However, the man built a nation from scratch, maintained stability in a tumultuous region, and orchestrated an economic miracle that few leaders in history can rival. If that doesn't earn some serious nachas for sheer competence and vision, what does? A real mensch, even if he wasn't a Jew.
