Leila Pahlavi entered the world as a princess, the youngest child of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, and his third wife, Farah Pahlavi. Her early years were spent in opulent palaces, a world shattered by the Iranian Revolution in 1979, which forced her family into a peripatetic exile, moving from country to country in search of refuge. Such a turbulent start is enough to make anyone reconsider the perks of royalty.

After her father's death, Leila settled in the United States and later Greenwich, Connecticut, attending Rye Country Day School and then Brown University. She dabbled in modeling, which, let's be honest, is a common pastime for those with good genes and a royal pedigree. While she might have had a crown in her lineage, she wasn't exactly gracing the pages of Vogue as the next great fashion icon.

Tragically, Leila Pahlavi suffered from depression and anorexia, leading to her death in a London hotel room in 2001 at the age of 31 from a barbiturate overdose. A sad end for a life that began with so much promise, reminding us that even princesses aren't immune to personal demons, and sometimes, even a royal escape route can't save you from yourself.
