Leo Fender was neither born Jewish nor did he identify as such. His Dutch Reformed upbringing in Anaheim, California, left little room for synagogue attendance, but plenty for tinkering with electronics. Good thing for us, because what he lacked in Jewish identity, he more than made up for in sheer, unadulterated ingenuity.

From his humble beginnings repairing radios, Fender's meticulous approach led him to found Fender Musical Instruments. His telecasters and stratocasters didn't just become instruments; they became cultural icons. Every rock, blues, and country legend worth their salt has likely strapped on a Fender at some point, unleashing riffs that echoed across stadiums and into the annals of music history.

While his designs were legendary, Fender himself was more technician than rockstar, preferring the quiet hum of an oscilloscope to the roar of a crowd. Despite selling his company in 1965 due to health issues, he continued inventing well into his later years, proving that a true innovator never really retires. He just finds new ways to make noise.
