LeVar Burton, beloved by many for his calming demeanor and encyclopedic knowledge of space (or at least, the starship Enterprise), has consistently beamed his talents into living rooms for decades. From his powerful debut in "Roots" to his long-running stint as chief engineer Geordi La Forge, he's navigated complex narratives and even more complex visor technology with aplomb.

Then, of course, there's "Reading Rainbow," a show that convinced an entire generation that butterflies in the sky were, in fact, telling the truth. Burton's dedication to literacy and education is undeniable, making him a fixture in the childhoods of millions. We're still holding out hope for that Kickstarter-funded reboot.

While his career has been a shining example of talent and perseverance, his Jewish bona fides remain, shall we say, elusive. There's no record of him being Jewish, practicing Judaism, or having any discernible connection to the tribe. He's more likely to be found exploring strange new worlds than exploring ancient traditions.

So, while we kvell over his contributions to sci-fi and childhood development, our synagogue attendance records remain decidedly un-Burton-ized. He's a cultural icon, to be sure, but ethnically, he appears to be boldly going where no Jew has gone before.
