Luis Fonsi, born Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero, burst onto the global music scene with "Despacito," a song so catchy it probably wormed its way into the collective unconscious of every single person on Earth, Jewish or not. The song broke numerous records, including being the first YouTube video to reach five billion views, achievements that almost certainly did not include a single mention in any synagogue bulletin.

Fonsi’s sustained success in the Latin music world has snagged him multiple Latin Grammys, which, while impressive, are not to be confused with any awards given for contributions to Jewish culture or for, say, an outstanding gefilte fish recipe.

While his musical stylings often feature themes of love and romance, there is no evidence to suggest that any of these impassioned ballads were ever secretly coded messages about longing for the promised land, or even just a good bagel.
