Lupita Nyong'o burst onto the scene with her Oscar-winning performance in "12 Years a Slave," where she portrayed Patsey, a role that required immense emotional depth. She has since graced several blockbuster films, including "Black Panther" and "Us," solidifying her status as a versatile and celebrated actress. We are, of course, kvelling. We always kvell. That's a given.

Born in Mexico City to Kenyan parents and raised primarily in Kenya, Nyong'o's background is as rich and diverse as her acting portfolio. She's a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, which, while not a direct pipeline to a synagogue, certainly speaks to her dedication to her craft. Maybe she picked up some Yiddish there? Unlikely, but one can dream.

Despite her remarkable talent and global recognition, Nyong'o is, alas, not Jewish. Not by birth, not by conversion, not even by a distant, unconfirmed rumor of a great-aunt’s second cousin twice removed. We've checked. Thoroughly. Like, really, really thoroughly. Our kvell-o-meter, however, still reads a solid two, because talent is talent, no matter the origin. She deserves it.
