Madeleine Kahn was a true comedic force, a master of deadpan delivery and exaggerated melodrama who could steal a scene with a single look. From her iconic roles in Mel Brooks classics like "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" to her Tony-nominated Broadway performances, she brought a unique blend of intelligence and vulnerability to every character she played.

Born in Boston to Paula Kahn (née Wolfson) and Bernard B. Kahn, her parents were both from Jewish families, making her undeniably of Jewish origin. However, there's little indication she actively identified or practiced Judaism during her life. Her upbringing was largely secular, focusing more on her prodigious talent for singing and acting.

While not overtly Jewish in her personal identification, Kahn certainly brought considerable nachas to audiences worldwide. Her ability to pivot from operatic arias to slapstick comedy made her an irreplaceable talent, and her premature death at 57 left a void in the world of entertainment that's never quite been filled. A testament to her genius, really, and quite kvell-worthy.
