When "Industry" character Yasmin Kara-Hanani was described as coming from a privileged North London background, our ears immediately perked up. After all, that's just another way of saying "posh Jew".

As London's Jewish community grew, its well-to-do members started to move from the poor East End to the historically wealthy northern suburbs, turning them into Jewish enclaves. Through the years... Wait, we're not here to discuss the history of London's Jews. We're here to talk about Yasmin and the actress who plays her, Marisa Abela.

Now, the show has not uttered the "J word", and the fact that Yasmin has been described as Lebanese and speaks Arabic with her mother, the obviously non-Jewish Azar Kara, gave us pause. But Yasmin's father, the despicable Charles Hanani, does not only have a clear Hebrew surname, but is also played by British Jewish actor Adam Levy. So, clearly, Yasmin is written as half Jewish, on her father's side.

Which brings us to Abela, who is also half Jewish... on her mother's side. In case you haven't watched "Industry", she starred as Jewish songbird Amy Winehouse in her biopic, "Back to Black".

So it all adds up... It shouldn't have taken so long for our ears to perk up!
