Michio Kaku, a man whose name sounds like he should be a character in a Japanese anime about quantum mechanics, is indeed a theoretical physicist. He's made a career out of making the incomprehensible slightly less incomprehensible for the masses, which is quite the achievement, considering the masses generally prefer cat videos to cosmology.

He's appeared on countless TV shows, written numerous books, and generally made a name for himself as the guy to call when you need someone to explain string theory without putting everyone to sleep. One might even say he's mastered the art of making theoretical physics palatable, a task many of his more cloistered colleagues might deem impossible.

Despite his clear intellectual prowess and media ubiquity, there's no indication that Michio Kaku has ever stumbled upon a synagogue, or even a pastrami sandwich, in his quest to understand the universe. His origins lie firmly outside the tribe, much like the elusive graviton he occasionally discusses.
