Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis, born Milena Markovna Kunis, hails from Chernivtsi, Ukrainian SSR, to a Jewish family. Her parents, a mechanical engineer and a physics teacher, made the pivotal decision to move to the United States when Mila was seven, largely due to antisemitism in the Soviet Union and the desire for a better future for their children. So, full points for origin, and a healthy dose of identity for having to flee persecution.

Kunis found her stride early, landing a role on "That '70s Show" at just 14, famously lying about her age during auditions. She parlayed her television success into a thriving film career, with notable roles in "Black Swan," "Friends with Benefits," and "Bad Moms." Not quite Oscar-worthy, but definitely enough to make her bubbe kvell.

While not overtly religious, Kunis has spoken about her Jewish heritage and the challenges her family faced. She’s definitely not shying away from her roots, even if she’s more Hollywood Hills than shtetl. A solid, all-around, kvell-worthy Jew, even if she rarely hits the synagogue.
