Nadine Gordimer

Nadine Gordimer, born in Springs, South Africa, was the daughter of Isidore Gordimer, a Lithuanian Jewish watchmaker, and Nan Myers, who was born in London to an English Jewish family. While her ancestry clearly places her within the Jewish diaspora, Gordimer herself did not publicly identify with or practice Judaism, focusing her formidable intellect and activism instead on the political landscape of her native South Africa.
